A little bit harsh....
No one will watch this game, but until the system is fixed - there will always be one or two shitty "BCS" bowl games.

I had a pipe dream idea recently. It will never happen, but wouldn't it be interesting if the NCAA got to schedule TWO non-conference games for every team each year? The tOSU's and Texas's can schedule their traditional two or three cupcake games...but the NCAA gets to dictate the other two. One home, one away. The "little guys" will finally get their chance to HOST a major conference team once in awhile...while also getting a shot on the road in huge stadiums...and certain major conference teams will no longer be able to schedule 4 or 5 home games exclusively against the likes of Citadel and North Texas just to pad their records and avoid challenging games. The concept seems pretty easy to me..the NCAA gives everyone 6-8 months notice on who they are playing so they can arrange travel & lodging..and everyone's non-conference schedule is pretty comparable in difficulty. There will be inevitable inequities...but it beats scheduling non-conference games 12 years in advance.

This article enrages me. Even if most of what she says is true. First off the game itself will be a great match-up. Just because the two teams aren't top ten doesn't mean they aren't matched up well. Any real fan of college football would enjoy watching two good teams that are evenly matched. And both teams could easily beat Texas Tech or Boise State. Or just as easily lose as well. Since when are Texas Tech and Boise State NCAA powerhouses? Texas Tech beat Texas at home and probably couldn't do it again. Boise State hasn't beaten anybody to suggest they are a powerhouse. I'm not trying to suggest Texas Tech isn't a good team (for the record I do think they are a better overall team than Cincy this year although we did put up a better showing vs. Oklahoma), but remember the hype Rutgers got two years ago after starting the year off 7-0? Maybe there will be a couple of non BCS bowls that are more intriguing than UC-V-Tech, but there will be dozens that aren't. And less people will watch those. I understand the point of her story is to say that the BCS system sucks, but don't do so at the expense of UC and V-Tech. That isn't fair to either school or either conference. The fact of the matter is there are really only 5-6 legitimate teams this year who are above the level of everyone else. Ohio State (not trying to start a fight here) and Utah aren't in that grouping and they are going BCS bowling. Mention that in your article. I'm not convinced Penn State is in that grouping either. To suggest UC's success pens on their performance in a completely meaningless game against Hawaii isn't fair either. Both teams did what they had to do to get to a BCS game. She needs to go about her BCS bashing in a different manner.

She?
Now I know I don't need to read this trash.
OSU fans are looking in odd places to try and find material they think will tweak out the UC fans.

Do you want to make a case against this woman's argument or just criticize her because she is a woman?
Tell me why this game will get big ratings.
Not sure what OSU fans have to do with any of this.

Two OSU fans start this thread to get a reaction...
Tyza's already given the appropriate response.

Listening to yesterday's ESPNU college football podcast and Beano Cook is calling the game interesting and rooting for UC! He's not picking us to win but he likes us! Better than Lee Corso who definitely thinks the Bearcats have no shot.

At least this time she didn't spend her time bad-mouthing UC. It's people like her that want the same ten teams playing for it year after year. If only Nebraska and Notre Dame can regain their high status then we can start a new Div. 0 and let all the real football teams (about 8-10 of them) duke it out every year.
This article is a good read (and it has a pic of guys pounding on the wall).

Looks like She knew what she was talking about
Quote:
Whenever BCS officials defend their oft-criticized postseason system, they like to point to the "overall health of college football," as measured by increased attendance and TV ratings. They're talking, however, about the regular season.
In terms of the BCS itself, preliminary Nielsen ratings for the first three BCS bowls played this week show that viewer interest has never been lower.
The Cincinnati-Virginia Tech Orange Bowl played on New Year's night drew a paltry 6.1 overnight rating for FOX, shattering the previous low of 6.98 set by the 2007 Wake Forest-Louisville Orange Bowl. By point of comparison, the Dec. 27 Florida State-Wisconsin Champs Sports Bowl drew nearly the same-sized audience.
