I've been reading Connor Barwin's "diary" this week and I got the feeling the Bearcats weren't focused on the game. These guys were too busy worrying what P Diddy and A-Rod were up to. Booking these guys at the 400$+ a night Hotel Fountain Bleu probably didn't help either.
I do feel sorry for Pike - he's a better QB than that. Gilyard once again showed that he is major playmaker. The UC Punter was good.
VA Tech's defense was impressive. Regardless of past attacks I have endured as a Buckeye fan, I will not talk trash. We [likely] have a smack down coming on Monday

Complete embarassment for the City and the University...
Kelly? An extension? That's all the better he can prepare his team for this game? Maybe he needs to go to TN...see how long they put up with that shit...
And feeling sorry for Tony Pike? Ha...the guy was utterly pathetic...had the deer in the headlights look all night long...made throws someone who is not focused would make...
Pathetic...everyone...should be embarassed....

Well, at least you distribute your hyperbolic criticism evenly.

Just wanted to check in from South Florida before hitting the rest of my vacation...
Tough game but nothing to be embarrassed about. Va Tech has been playing BCS-level football for a decade now and it showed last night. They made very few mistakes while penalties and turnovers killed the Bearcats.
Good showing by UC fans. Black and red pretty much dominated the pre-game activities, although not the 3-to-1 ratio the ticket sales would have indicated. Also a decent-sized presence of ACC townies who had no affiliation to UC or VT (mostly Miami and Florida State fans) who seemed to just show up to rile up the fans of the teams actually competing in the game.
I don't think UC will take a hit for this. The national attention is definitely focused on USC today. And it's better to make the Orange Bowl and lose here than win a Pizza, Muffler, or Sun Bowl.
It was a great season and hoping this is just a sample of what is to come for Bearcat football.
Ah, those first two minutes of the game were magical.

Now you know what tOSU Fan has been going through the past two years. As embarrassing as it is, I'd rather see tOSU get their asses kicked in the title game than win a lesser bowl game.

Cheap JP...cheap cheap cheap...TO$U is far more arrogant than that..I know you are one of the sensible ones..but sorry to say that the TO$U fan base throws the Bucks into a far more arrogant category than that...more of the "we're the best team in football but....(enter excuse here)"

I understand your point of view, and if I ever happen to meet any OSU fans that match your description, I vow to do my best to talk some sense into them. We have pretty much nothing to beat our chests about right now. Not a damn thing.

Kellys quote pissed me off..
"Should we have tackled more in 25 days?"
Uhh...football 101...YOU TACKLE EVERYDAY!
I think he has really knocked his stock down with this one...

Speaking of Kelly quotes...did anyone read this one:
Quote:
Overheard: Brian Kelly

"When it's worthwhile for Ohio State to play us, and they can gain something by beating us, then our program has moved to the level I have envisioned it. We're not there yet." -- Brian Kelly, University of Cincinnati football coach

He gets his shot at the Buckeyes in 2012. He won't have to deal with Pryor either.
Buckeyes do have one thing to gain: Shutting Lance McAlister and Bearcat428 up.
@Woodmania - I agree with you for the most part. I do feel the Bearcats got a little cocky the last few weeks and the players goofed off in South Florida, but losing by 13 in the Orange Bowl to end your season is a hell of a lot better than beating Buffalo or South Eastern Michigan Tech by 40 in an International Bowl. I think most UC fans are very disappointed, but not embarrassed.
I do have a question.... Who the hell took a bus ride down to this game? Thom B said there were 13 busloads of UC fans brought down. Who the hell rides a bus from Ohio to S Florida and back? Are airfares that insane? That's like what, 35 hours on a bus? Was the inconvenience worth it?

Franny,
I think most of the buses were students, heard they had some packaged deal for the ones that wanted to go.
The ole' lady and I have some friends that went and yes air fares were nuts....$675 each from CVG to MIA, and not much better from there to lauderdale, etc. Now if you wanted to fly southwest or some other low cost budget airline with hassles...you could go a little cheaper but you were connecting 50 times, and I like most others to travel to relax...find the hassle not worth it.
Drive wise...have made the drive down to south florida with race team and car in tow...24 hr minimum and that's straight through. It sucks

Woodmania paid ~$300. Shop around. Be flexible with departure times.
Fly out of Dayton or Indy for even better discounts.

Back in town from the game. UC has nothing to be embarrassed about. They played a bad game to a good team and hung around in the game the entire time despite being outplayed the final 58 minutes and 8 seconds. It was a dissapointing loss, but it takes nothing away from what the Bearcats were able to accomplish this year. This team won 11 games and a Big East title in a year when they weren't supposed to do anything. Like I said before the game, UC and V-Tech matched up great. Unfortunately V-Tech outplayed us. I highly doubt though that any UC player was not ready for this game and as fired up for it as all the fans were that were down there. I won't accept the excuse that they have been there before and we haven't. A game plays on the field and not the month leading up to it. I think Kelly's quote of needing to have tackled more the last 25 days was a bit of sarcasm. Football players chomp at the bit for a chance to hit someone hard, especially after not playing for such a long time. I might accept that V-Tech had a better gameplan than we did. There were times where it seems Kelly got outcoached. He definatelt abandoned the run too much. UC ran well when they did run. I don't understand going five on first and second down from the three. With the wind a factor and Pike struggling you have to use your running game. At least make them think that a run is a possibility.
It was a great year to be a Bearcat and I look forward to more years like this in the future. We should get better caliber recruits coming in and hopefully the city stays behind us. It would have been nice to win and finish in the top ten, but this team (even if it had destroyed V-Tech) I don't think could make an honest argument on being one of the ten best teams in the country. Can't wait till next year.
