Cronin is not going anywhere. He may even get another extension!

You opined that it shouldn't take any time to rebuild a "L33T" program such as Hugg U. More rational minds said the new coach deserved 4-5 years to get the program back to NCAA Tourney status. And my stance in that regard, has not changed a bit. Nor should it. Any coach put in that situation deserved 4-5 years before any rash decisions were made. And regardless of what I think of Cronin now, as opposed to 1-3 years ago, my stance has always been the more rational one of the two. Expecting or demanding instant success was never a logical, rational, or sane stance.
This is not a case of me being stubborn or refusing to admit wrong. I have no problems admitting when I err. I don't believe I was ever wrong in saying that Mick deserved 4-5 years. If I ever said that Mick "would definitely" get the team back to the Dance in 4-5 years, then I think I was wrong. It's not happening this year, and I'm not convinced there is any chance of it next year. Did I ever say Mick would definitely have the team back to the Dance by now? Maybe, I don't really remember. If I did, then I was wrong.
But I have definitely said he should have the team in the Dance this year given the talent he's accumulated. He has earned his reputation as a tireless recruiter that can deliver major talent. As far as his ability to lead the program back to NCAA Tournaments, he is losing the confidence of fans with each passing day. And deservedly so. If you can't coach this team to the Dance, then your ability is officially open for questioning.
We're nearing the end of Year 4. I'll admit I expected more at this point. I repeat, I expected an NCAA berth this year and it's not going to happen. That makes me upset, and in my opinion, Mick should be on a very hot seat. Like I said, I'm already pessimistic for 2011. I haven't seen anything to make me believe that he will lead a team to the NCAA Tourney next year unless it expands to 96 teams. The program is in a far better place than it was when he arrived, but he may not be the man for the job.

I think the days of extensions without results are over. Simply because he's got a lot of time on his current deal left, I see Mick coming back next year. After that? We'll see how the 2010-2011 season goes.

He needs 8 or more years! He's building a program "from scratch!"
Give me a break OSUJP!
I also like the bar is so low - all the guy has to do is GET in the NCAA tournament and he's Dean Smith Jr as far as JP is concerned!

Franny, you are better than attacking straw man arguments.

The thing is, I still think they sneak in the dance. They don't deserve to be there, but the committee has tricked themselves into thinking the Big East is that much superior.

Couldn't disagree more. I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

The committee has yet to put in Big East teams that don't deserve to be there. Speculation at this point in the season is always more teams will get in than really do. I'll buy the argument that ESPN is hyping up the Big East pretty good. I don't believe I've heard the committee say anything. Bottom line is you have to win more games in the conference than you lose. UC won't accomplish that. Our non-conference resume will shine much brighter than teams that will make it in ahead of us that only lose 3 or 4 games in a lesser conference. That's the nature of the BEast.

Josh Katzowitz agrees. He just tweeted:
"I think he'll have the rest of this year and next year at least."

Yep - common opinion seems to be that UC is not in a financial situation that would allow them to fire a coach with so many years left on a contract.

NICE win today. Tough spot to be in on the road with en emotional advantage for the Huskies. Good to see them hit free throws down the stretch to hold on to a nice lead. Still gave up some dumb turnovers but a great effort on the road. Big picture: (15-9, 6-6 Big East)

The next three are definitely winnable if they play like they did tonight. And if they could upset one of those last three teams, they could sneak in like Franny suspects they might.

As pleased as I was with the UConn game, Jim Calhoun was quite the opposite.
