Default Kelly's credo no passing fancy

The Enquirer has posted some new information about the University of Cincinnati Bearcats:

The 15 days of practice University of Cincinnati football coach Brian Kelly spent with the Bearcats in December in preparation for the International Bowl gave him his first chance to evaluate the players he inherited from Mark Dantonio.

"Dustin Grutza has some experience. He played against Big East opponents and has won games, so he comes in as the No. 1 guy."
Interesting to see Kelly come out and say that. Grutza better have a hell of a spring if he wants to keep that top spot. Mauk isn't eligible for spring practices so it's Dustin's time to shine if he wants to stay under center.

Grutza looked sharp today for what its worth. All UC's QB will need to do this year is to manage games and come up with a couple of big plays a game. The defense will be good enough to keep up with anyone in the conference with the possible exception of a healthy Steve Slaton and Pat White. Grutza doesn't need to be a star but this is his third year with the program and he needs to start looking like it. Last year he looked like a first year starter again. I wouldn't be shocked to see him win the job in the fall over Mauk but my money is on Ben.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is no way Grutza is the starter next year. Kelly is saying the PC thing here. He has no intentions of starting him. If it's not Ben Mauk it will someone else who beat him out. If Grutza somehow shows he is the best quarterback available then God help the rest of the quarterbacks. And we will be a running team still if he is under center. Grutza has shown time and time again he can not hit an open receiver. I find it interesting that Mike Daniels is being moved back to wide receiver. I was wondering how they were going to juggle the three returning RB's with Mike Daniels coming back and Mister Simpson transferring in, especially in a pass oriented offense. Mike Daniels has decent speed, I wonder what kind of hands he has. He was our best running back two years ago. I guess this is a problem you like to have.
