His numbers last year were down, but his overall numbers over four years are solid. He doesn't strike out every other at-bat which is what I like. He's a get on-base mentality type of guy with blazing speed. Perfect for the top of the order. Being his fifth year in the league this is the time he needs to round into shape. He needs to get his average up for sure. He played in the NL West which has a lot of pitchers parks so that could be a reason for a poor average. And Coors Field with the humidor is no longer a hitters park either. We'll see how he fares in a hitters park. I like the signing. You got to give guys like this a chance. Anyone who thinks the Reds will sign any big names in free agency is completely kidding themselves. They can't compete with the high $ teams for above average talent. Bring a guy like this in and see if he gels with this team and this park. This signing might mean they are giving up on re-signing Hairston. Or at least moving on with different plans in case they don't re-sign him.
