Favorite College Rivalries
What are your favorite college rivalries? Which are the most hyped and which never deliver?
Personally I think the Michigan/ OSU rivalry takes the cake. It seems like every year there is a Big Ten Championship on the line.

Obviously, I am biased. But I cannot imagine a better rivalry than Ohio State/Michigan football. People try to say that UNC/Duke basketball is the best rivalry going, but I find that pretty retarded. They play each other twice a year, sometimes as many as four times a year. I can't imagine saying "Damn, we lost to Michigan. Oh well, we'll get 'em next week when we play 'em again!"

Dick Vitale is a turd.
OSU-Michigan is the biggest and most well known. So much rides on that game... Championships, Coaches keeping their jobs, Recruiting... It's a big deal. Ann Arbor and Columbus shut down on gameday, much like the country of Ghana does during the World Cup.

I think Oklahoma and Texas fans would have an opinion on this.

That rivalry is more localized to the Southwest. The OSU/Michigan game is watched by a hell of a lot more people around the nation.
Why are you sticking up for... Oklahoma??

No one cares about Oklahoma : http://espn.go.com/endofcentury/s/ot...rivalries.html

I'm not sticking up for anyone... I just think that most people's concept of what constitutes a big rivalry hinges on the region where they live. Yours included. Ask Carson Palmer about the biggest rivalry in college sports and I bet he'd say it's USC - UCLA. If you really believe the whole world is infatuated with OSU-Michigan though, you're crazy. It's a HUGE (and awesome) rivalry, no question, but it may or may not be the biggest, despite whatever random ESPN links you may produce.
I don't know why you'd be offended if I didn't think OSU-Michigan was the biggest rivalry in the world anyway. That's not a slight to either school. I'm well aware that they both have large, obsessive, fan-bases.

Nationally I would believe that the OSU/Michigan game would be the biggest rivalry out there, with the Texas matchup running second.
Personally, I tend to agree with Scot and the regionality of the rivalries. The rivalry I most anticipate is the one between my school and Akron. It doesn't mean anything to anyone outside of NE Ohio, but it's big for those that went to those schools.

Yeah, OSU-Michigan is probably the biggest rivalry in all of sports. It's the only game Keith Jackson is willing to leave the west coast to do (part of his condition of un-retiring was that he didn't travel far and had total say over his schedule).
Of course, for personal reasons I love the Victory Bell game. The historical significance is impressive too (one of the top 5 oldest in the country, dating to 1888 - the best part of the story of the 1888 game is the 0-0 tie in which a player died a few days later because of pneumonia - the game had been played in a freezing rain).

I don't think those 2 schools bring too much to the table as far as historical significance in football. It's just a game, usually an insignificant one. I never really saw it as a real rivalry because the rivalry doesn't transcend the 1 game. Ask a UC student who UC's rival is and he'll say "Xavier," not Miami. No one is passionate about that game, it doesn't even sell out.
I'll make a case that OSU-Michigan is the biggest rivalry in the country but the topic here is "favorite" so i will accept that most of you will just pick the rivalry of your own school.

If we look outside of football to basketball my favorite rivalry is the Cross-Town Shootout! That's a fun game and all the promotions leading up to the game make it more than just a game, it's an event.

Depends...though they're not the brightest in the world, if you made the distinction, "who is UC's biggest rival in football" most would tell you Miami. Yeah, there's the Keg of Nails game, but UC never wins that...and now they're trying to push some fake rivalry with Pitt called the "River City Rivalry." I say only if you're talking pro football.

You're the dope. People in Washington state probably don't give a rat's ass about OSU/Michigan. I do in fact resent the Sox/Yanks rivalry but to deny how big it is is to deny reality.
Also Mr. turd, J Mart said it was the biggest rivalry in ALL OF SPORTS, and I was responding to that.
