Default #4 Fantasy Pick

OK guys, I've got the dreaded #4 pick in a 14-team league this Saturday. I'm leaning:

35% towards Tiki Barber
30% towards Edgerrin James
15% towards Rudi
15% towards Lamont Jordan
2.5% towards Ronnie Brown
2.5% towards Clinton Portis

At this point I can't go with Portis and his shoulder. Which sucks, because I was ready to take him at #4 a few weeks ago.

Standard scoring, but we also get 0.5 points per reception in this league.

Thoughts? I'd love to trade down and get Ronnie Brown + another pick in the middle rounds. I just don't know if anyone will make the deal with me.

Edge is a risky pick. New team, new O-line... I don't know if he's worth a top 5 pick. We all know he is injruy prone too.

Surprised you don't have a QB in that mix

At 4 pts. per passing TD, QB's typically don't start disappearing until Round 3 or 4, with the exception of Peyton Manning, who will probably go late-first/early-second based on recent history.

I'm not sure I'd label Edge much of an injury risk. Aside from tearing his ACL, he's missed 5 or 6 games in 7 years, and I think one of those games was last year when he had no reason to play in the final regular season game. I share your O-Line concerns though.

Rudi or Tiki...keep in mind, Rudi might get more carries early on to help the offense along without Palmer (or with a rusty Palmer).

Lamont Jordan was on a good pace last year, getting TD's and receptions, until he got the turf toe. I still think #4 is too high for him.

I think with Rudi, you know what you're going to get - 1,200-1,400 yds, 10-13 TD's, and very few receptions. But if Tiki can just attain 85-90% of the numbers he has put up the past 2 years, he will blow Rudi out of the water.

I think I'll be taking Tiki #4 or trading down.

I agree. Again, I don't think Jordan even belongs in the conversation until he puts together a whole season of good numbers.

Draft took place Saturday. Typical starting lineup of 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1DEF (4 pts per passing TD, 6 pts per rushing/receiving TD, 0.5 pts per reception, and DEF is basically worthless - the only way to score points is to score a defensive TD, a safety, or hold the opposing offense under 14 pts).
14 teams in this league, 16 rounds - draft took FIVE HOURS!

QB: Michael Vick (7th round), Drew Brees (10th round)
RB: Tiki Barber (1st round), Fred Taylor (5th round), Mike Anderson (9th round), Michael Bennett (11th round), Cedric Houston (15th round)
WR: Anquan Boldin (2nd round), Roy Williams (3rd round), Joe Horn (4th round), Chad Jackson (14th round), Marcus Robinson (13th round)
TE: Alge Crumpler (6th round), Chris Cooley (8th round)
K: Jeff Wilkins (16th round)
DEF: Baltimore (12th round)

Our league gives 6 points for reception TDs to QB and WR I believe... I thought I did alright

QB: Palmer, Rivers, Volek
WR: Wayne, Horn, Randle-El
RB: Rudi, Julius Jones, Perry, Alstott
TE: Dallas Clark, Vernon Davis
K: Vinatieri, Nuge
DEF: Denver

Curious how far Palmer fell in your draft before you took him? TO? Clinton Portis? Noteable from my draft:

- Portis fell to #12 overall
- Palmer fell to early 4th round
- Deuce fell to early 5th round (Bush went #30 overall)
- TO fell to #27 overall, and the guy is already panicking after this $9,500 fine

I was extremely happy to load up my TE slot with some depth. It killed me last year only having 1 decent TE. In a receptions league, Crumpler & Cooley are really solid.

I'm with you OSU, took Tiki w/ my #1 pick. I think I did worse over all though:

QB: Bulger (really wanted Culpepper but he was snatched up 5 or so picks before me)

RB: Tiki and Baby Matrix, whi is obviously a calculated risk

WR: Boldin and Keyshaun Johnson, w/ Andre johnson in reserve

TE: Randy McMichael (interchangable with about 29 others in the league)

DEF: Carolina (my best pick?)

Resevres- Santonio Holmes, Chris Simms, Matt Leinart (go go get hurt Kurt Warner!), Brandon Steokely, Marion Barber

TOO MANY QUESTION MARKS

I'll be hard pressed for a threepeat in my league this year.

I took Palmer in the mid 2nd round. TO was early third I believe, I wanted him!!

Shantyman - kudos on the Reggie Baby Matrix Bush Reference...
