Bearcats telemarketing
From Lance's blog:

Lance,
I took advantage of the 1530 Homer Family Plan this year...Good stuff!
I'm not sure if it's a normal thing done every year, but I received a phone call from UC WR Dominick Goodman last night. He just wanted to thank me for buying season tickets and remind me about the upcoming Bearcat Bowl. Whether or not this is normal, I like the gesture. It demonstrates UC's proactive effort to raise the interest in UC football and build a larger dedicated fan base.

Being an OSU alum who is lucky to even get the chance to spend $58 per ticket to see a sold out OSU/Kent State game at Ohio Stadium, I can't really understand the problem UC faces with football ticket sales, but this is interesting. The program has forced college students / BIG EAST athletes to THANK people over the phone for buying tickets? Shouldn't they be practicing or studying?
What if a player like Grutza doesn't meet his quota for calls each day? Will he be suspended?
Should the Reds try this? "Hello, this is Adam Dunn of the Cincinnati Reds. Thank you for attending last night's game. Did you know this Wednesday is Norris Hopper bobble head night?? I can get you a good deal on 4 tickets, but only if you order RIGHT NOW"

I'm sure it was a recording. I can't imagine players doing live calls during spring practice time. I think Tyza said he got a call from Brian Kelly, but it was a recording.
A lot of teams have tried this in the past. When Vick was first drafted, the Falcons had him record a message that was similar in order to drum up season ticket sales.
And yes, the Reds definitely need to try this.

Yeah Mr. Lance. I'm getting calls from Mr. Kelly as well as a hand signed letter. You only get Dominick Goodman? Maybe if you were wiser than the tyza man you would be more appreciated.

I got love for all my Bearcats, but I know the respect coming my way when Coach Kelly himself speaks through a recorded voice and says "Hey, Bearcat fans." That makes you feel pretty good about yourself. All joking aside, it really was cool to get to meet him last week at the meet and greet for season ticket holders. Most BCS schools you would have to be a long-term or high dollar donor to the school for such an honor. I know that doesn't say much for the Bearcat program, but I am proud to be a Bearcat. Our day in the sun will come. It is sad that only 50 people or so show up for a chance to meet the coach face to face and ask him questions, but it worked out well for me and the Woodman. We got about five minutes with the coach and got to ask a few questions. We also got a great picture that the Woodman needs to put up on this website, not just his own personal blog!

Yeah, it is kind of cool to think that the coach is this accessible. If this event was held for Tressel at OSU, there would be over 10,000 people waiting in line. No exaggeration here.
Ohh yeah, Woodman did show me the pic. I thought he posted it in the #1 Stunna thread: New Official Franny #1 Stunna Thread (at the end)
