Who was the guy from Fox? Nader was about to explain the reasoning behind his comment but the guy cut him off. Cheap.

That's Shepard Smith - that tactic is patented and trademarked by Fox News.
I understand that he had an explanation and that he got cut off...the usage of that term just shows an incredible lack of common sense on his part.

I'm sure he made the comment in an attempt to stay relevant, but at least let the man either dig himself out or dig himself deeper by explaining himself. I was amused by the Fox anchor sounding so serious and jumping to the defense of a man his network spent almost 2 years trying to destroy. Bravo.

Shepard Smith has been on edge since Obama was elected. Nader's comment was out of line, but Smith (one guy I actually like from Fox News) could have handled the interview better.

I can't tell you what Nader was thinking, but on different forums, in defense of Nader, they are saying that he used the term to describe 'a black person who hurts his own people by trying to please white people'.
From wikipedia:
Quote:
Uncle Tom is a pejorative for a black person who is perceived by others as behaving in a subservient manner to White American authority figures, or as seeking ingratiation with them by way of unnecessary accommodation. The term Uncle Tom comes from the title character of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, although there is debate over whether the character himself is deserving of the pejorative attributed to him. Stowe never meant Uncle Tom to be a degrading character, but the term as a pejorative has developed based on how later versions of the character, stripped of his strength, were depicted on stage.[1]
It is commonly used to describe black people whose political views or allegiances are considered by their critics as detrimental to blacks as a group.

I think there's a lot of over-sensitive people in this world, and I think there are a lot of insensitive people in this world. Maybe he used the wrong phrase, but it seems like the heart of the question, if you take all emotion out of it, seems valid to me.
The thing is, we elected a man we all know very little about - he doesn't have a long public record and his public record is hard to nail down and compartmentalize. Everyone just wants to know what he's going to do in office, everyone's on edge. Including the people that voted for him.

I don't think he honestly intended to offend anyone. But he should've known that it was going to offend people. In the context that he used the term, I would bet that he probably thinks George Bush is an "Uncle Tom" to the corporations as well. But since GWB is white, Nader usually calls him a "pawn" to the corporations. When you start tossing around names that are only associated with blacks, you should know that people are going to roast you for it, and you're going to offend people. Ralph should've known better.

Bearcat-
Didn't you get the memo...
Hannity, Mark Levin and the other AM Radio old GOP people have stopped using the words Marxist and Socialist... Now the popular mock is to call Barack Obama Jimmy Carter and keep talking about how a new Ronald Reagan will rise from the ashes of the distressed country in 2012.
Just trying to keep you in the loop as far as Republican Talking Points.

I read that the guy that owns "joetheplumber.com" received an $800,000.00 offer for the domain name.
I hope he took the money before JtP became irrelevant.

Jindal is without question the Right's version of Obama. It's kinda hard to imagine Jindal rocketing all the way up to the top position at such a young age - but I could see him being a VP nominee. People definitely are excited about his future. He's up there with Palin in terms of popularity, only he is very well-educated and can speak.
I think Repubs should wait and see how popular Orockstar is in 4 years before putting the Franchise up against him. If his approval ratings are sky-high and there is no chance of beating him, why not sacrifice someone else.
Jindal vs. Bayh in 2016!
