Default Creeping Below 8000 DOW

7,997.

Wowzaz. Unemployment predicted to hit 8% by Spring 09.

Cunningham and Bearcat428 will now stop referencing articles about how this is all a normal market correction and call this the "Obama Market." Did they forget who was actually President?

Russ - give us some tips! What to do? Hide our cash under the mattress? "The Era of Big Government Being Over Is Over"

Hopefully the markets rally tomorrow.

go back and check franny, this is exactly as i predicted. i said there would be lots of activity post election, either buying (if mccain won) or selling (if obama won). people are taking obama at his word and preparing.

it's called common sense and history. and right now it's only the promise of increased taxes, wait until they actually happen.

a president elect has nothing to do with this particular stock market crash. the fed releases economic numbers and the market responds. today it was reported that gdp is starting to shrink for the first time in a very very long time.franny already pointed out the outlook for employment. feds are also cutting rates again. add that ontop of GM, circuit city, ford and others all going bankrupt and i think you can be smart enough to realize this has nothing to do w a president elect's popularity with wall street.

ford could be less than $1 a share by end of week.

i wasn't only talking about wall street.

i will say this, i've heard a few dems start mentioning a corporate tax cut, now that mccain is out of the picture. they attacked him for that as a "big oil tax break" but now all of the sudden it's different. but it's only a few dems, it stands no chance. just another reason for what's going on. hell, just sunday obama was talking about high taxes on oil. that's a real good idea berry.

Read Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thomas Friedman and you will understand why high taxes on oil will help get this country to energy independence. That book should be required reading for any U.S. citizen over the age of 18, not just members of the Shantyfamily.

the reason for taxing oil you state is debatable. it's impact on the economy (now in particular) is not. on that note, wtf is with diesel prices? that's why the cost of goods is still high, why hasn't it come down with gas?

Don't think there is any one solution Franny.

A lot of people, myself included, are making decisions to sell this year because of who is going to be in office next year, not now.

If you go by his pre election platform you have to do most of your trading now, not next year. He has already said he would let the Bush tax breaks expire. Put that with 10% corp tax increase and 5% gains tax increase and it could cost a lot of money by waiting. Think this is what a lot of small and medium investors are thinking.

Sounds funny but right now short term CD's and short term government bonds look like the safest bets until the Messiah makes up his mind between higher taxes or businesses expanding.

I'd like see you produce a copy of your E*trade or Schwab statement that shows that you sold large amounts of stock after Nov 4.

Settle down... I'm obviously not being serious. I still don't believe he took a 20-30% realized loss just because he's afraid of an Obama presidency.

You guys need to start realizing that if the govt. starts bailing out the Auto Industry, Capitalism as we know it is officially dead. Can you accept that? It didn't work, so we're trying something new. Change is hard. The days of business owners and phat cats getting handouts would come to an end.

Who said I took a loss. This was some stock I bought when the market was low and took a profit and got rid of it before the first of the year.

I don't care if it was 1 share or 100000 shares. If you go by his tax platform you will make more money if it is sold now rather than after he takes office.
