WASHINGTON (CNN) – GOP congressional leader John Boehner is brushing off President Obama’s recent joke about Boehner’s famously permanent tan.
At the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner a week ago, the country’s first African-American president said he had “a lot in common” with Boehner who is Caucasian. “He is a person of color,” Obama joked before a massive ballroom of celebrities and Washington journalists. “Although not a color that appears in the natural world,” Obama added, barely able to keep his composure as he delivered the dig.

“As I tell my friends, you only tease the ones you love,” Boehner said responding to Obama Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.

“Yeah, I enjoy being outside,” Boehner added, trying to explain his persistently tanned appearance.

“I’d rather be heckled than ignored,” the Ohio Republican told CNN’s John King.

Double standard.

He can joke about color.

Anyone ever JOKED about President Obama's color, maybe that he is light-skinned, the world would turn upside down.

This is a societal problem.

They're both cheap. Unless someone is completely clear, they have color. As long as people, in this case the President of the United States, insist on labeling people by the color their skin, we will not see an end to racism. Don't even joke about it, it's stupid.

it doesn't bother me so much because obama was elected largely due to how "historic" it would be to elect a black man president.

how many times did we hear how "historic" it would be, yet i know that by writing the statement above, some folks would say i'm flirting with racism because i called it like it is: barak obama was both elected, and given a pass for his many, many flaws because of his skin color.

that he uses his skin color to make jokes he knows a white man could never get away with is simply par for the same mentality that doesn't see the ironic hypocracy of BET, congressional black caucus, or "black entertainment." it is what it is.
