Default Republican Debate

Anyone watching?

Thompson/Romney '08? (That's my prediction by the way.)

i don't have cable (can't justify paying for TV), but i've watched a few clips via Breitbart TV online throughout the day. seems like Thompson had a hard time getting his sea-legs under him. Ron Paul is the man. i'll vote for him, even if it's a write-in for the primary. my runner-up is Thompson - nice to see a guy with a sense of history.

why is The Mouth moderating the debate? why is a former speech-writer for President Carter (for 4 years, no less) viewed upon as objective? i wonder if Peggy Noonan will be asked to moderate the next Democrat debate

I didn't say he enticed me, I'm just making a prediction. He's going to appeal to a lot more people than most of these other schmoes, in my opinion.

[edit] Sorry... I thought Tedesco was talking to me.

I'm watching, but I don't know how much more I can take.

McCain was asked, point blank, "Is the tax system fair?" and his answer was "Yes." 20 minutes later during some diatribe, he clearly said "We all know the tax system is incredibly unfair." Contradicting yourself within half an hour!

Fast forward 40 minutes and we have Huckabee saying he would go to war without the approval of congress, only doing what he thought was right without asking anyone else! That's nothing short of Totalitarianism!!

Ron Paul is the only candidate up there answering the question with straight answers, not contradicting himself, and speaking the ugly truth that no one in Washington wants to hear.

...and can Giuliani go 24 hours without saying "September 11th"? I don't think he can!

Actually, I was asking you WM. I just wonder if Thompson will be able to go the distance. McCain and Giuliani have more exposure than Thompson right now, and they seem a bit more polished at the "game". I think Thompson has got some good things to say, but to me he seems to come off a little curmudgeonly at the moment.

This has been bugging me a little bit as well. I get it, he organized an extensive cleanup effort and likes to wear FDNY hats. He's going to have to prove he can lead a country.

(I do like Giuliani, I just think people are growing tired of him milking that day for presidency)

I don't like Rudy Guliani. Or I guess I mean to say I don't like him as much as I like some of these other guys.

Unfortunately I don't trust the majority of the American public to see past the glam of Rudy G. I think because he has had so much exposure and because he keeps riding on 9/11 that he will probably win the nomination. I'm not saying it's right, but unless he screws up in some major way I don't see it changing.

I think Thompson was smart to stay out of the race for awhile. I think it can be counter-productive to get involved in the process too early. You spin your wheels, waste a lot of money, and if you slip up somewhere you give you opponents ammunition to use to go after you. There's still plenty of time to build momentum for the nomination.

I think Fred Thompson has a lot things going for him that people will like. He's tall, people recognize him from TV, he's got a southern drawl people will gravitate to the same way they like Jeff Brantley's. I think he's a pretty smart guy and he's kind of funny. His background in law gives him some experience with debate. I can see all the good ole boys liking him a lot.

None of these are good reasons to want the guy as president, but this is what I see and this is what I think people will like about him. Pair him up with Romney, (who is also sharp) and you have a tough ticket to beat. A northerner with a southerner, etc. I like it.

Isn't this all a money game? The guy that raises the most money wins. Basically?

I'll predict Giuliani vs. Clinton.

I would probably choose Thompson or Paul over Clinton at this point. Don't trust the lady, but unfortunately I think she'll wind up being the Dem front runner.

It won't be Giuliani... He's not actually conservative on a number of issues that are actually important to conservative people. He's the kind of "Republican" that can get elected in a place like New York City. So there you go.

Of all the guys up there I don't like, Giuliani is my least favorite. I was in Cincinnati when the Bengals went to the Superbowl, that doesn't qualify me to be head-coach! He was at the wrong place at the right time, being mayor of a city does not qualify one to be President of the United States. I think there will be more expansion of war and escalation of troops (hence more DEATH) under his Presidency than any of the other guys.

Thompson is probably my favorite aside from Paul, but even he will continue the war and probably spread it to Iran. There has been death and fighting in the Middle East for at least 10,000 years - there is nothing we can do there to stop it and no reason for us to be there!

Herr Huckabee is getting higher on my shit-list each time I hear him speak. I've never heard a PASTOR speak more about going to war. Does he realize another name for Jesus is "Prince of Peace"??
